Spindlewood - a modern replacement for a tired house.

Spindlewood is situated in sought after Cadbury Camp Lane, in the Gordano area of Bristol. Our clients bought a tired 1960 house on an excellent plot with views for miles over the sprawling countryside.
The initial thought was to extend / adapt the existing strucure to form a larger house but it was decided that it would be more cost effective and rewarding to demolish the house and start again.

The client had watched with interest the building and televising of the Grand Designs 'Sugar Cube House' that was built in the Clifton area of Bristol.

He contacted the Main Contractor Geoff Miles who had built the Sugar Cube House for the Pease family.

We had worked closely with Geoff when we supplied and erected the steel and timber frame for the Sugar Cube. Geoff was able to get together the rest of the 'A Team' from the Sugar Cube project including the very good design team.

the timber frame nears completion

The house has a spacious design with the rear of the house extensively glazed to take advantage of the amazing views. The living areas are at the first floor entrance level with the utility areas below and the bedrooms above. The master bedroom is situated at the rear of the house and over-looks the mature gardens.

The structure sits primarily on steel posts. Fabricated using a hybrid of steel and timber with the exterior twin walls being fully insulated to a depth of 300mm. The exterior timber frame panels arrived on site with the render carrier board factory fixed.
All of the floors and roof construction are made using metal webbed joists for ease of installing services. Underfloor heating will be installed throughout the entire house with the boiler room located at lower ground floor level.

The timber frame element of the house is now complete and the house is now in the very capable hands of the Main Contractor Geoff Miles. The website will be updated with more images as we receive them.

We wish the clients the very best in what will be an outstanding home.
